One of the risks of sanding the old way was releasing dust containing lead into the air. Because we serve older areas of Philadelphia and the rest of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Nolan Painting often works inside homes built before 1978. This means there is a higher risk of lead paint being involved, but you don’t have to worry with the Festool CT HEPA Dust Extractor. The vacuum and filter are connected directly to the sanding tool, and capture dust as it is released, greatly reducing the chance of particulates filtering through the air.
On average, a professional painter charges between $990 and $1,320 per room, depending on how large the room is and how many complex features are in the space. If a room has higher ceilings, complicated trim, baseboards, or many windows, this makes the project more expensive.

Another option for exterior paint build up is to have all the old paint stripped down to bare wood, primed and painted so all surfaces look nearly new and relatively smooth. This is a very time consuming, labor intensive and expensive process so your budget will drive the decision process.
Not to mention, paint job costs can differ based on various labor and material rates across different cities and states.

Painting the cut-ins will require patience and attention to detail. If you’re new to this, consider using painter’s tape. Alternatively, this video demonstrates how you can paint your ceiling cut-ins without tape, like a pro.

When painting along glass, don’t bother to mask it if you have a steady hand. Allow the paint to lap onto the glass by about 1/16 inch. Remove the wet paint from the glass with a rag wrapped around the end of a putty knife. Then, after the paint sets-up, use a razor blade to remove any remaining paint.

Above: I attempted to paint my detailed pantry myself for a Remodelista post. Truth be told, it was so time-consuming that I was able to only apply one coat to the outsides of just one side of the room. To finish the painstaking work, including on the interior cabinets, I called on Catchlight.
Water-based paint – also known as acrylic or latex paint – dries faster and is less likely to turn yellow over time. It also doesn’t give off those strong fumes. If you get paint on interior surfaces, you can easily clean it up with water and soap.
