Oil-based paint contains more volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than latex, so it’s less “green” and often has a foul (and sometimes even harmful) odor while drying.

However, White Dove (OC-17) is still regarded as a warm soft off-white. As an exterior paint color, you can use White Dove on your home’s siding or trim. Similar to alabaster, this trending color is best used to brighten up shaded houses. The color really pops when surrounded by greenery and contrasted with black shutters or slate-toned windows.
We know, cleaning up is the least fun part of any job. However, clean up and proper disposal of paint wash out is an extremely important part of the painting process. Latex paint can simply be washed out of brushes with soap and warm water. Dispose wash out in a government approved area that will not seep into groundwater. Alternatively, invest in an environmentally friendly, paint wash out system.
You can contact a decorator or your local paint shop when seeking a color consultation. Shops will often offer the service along with a discount on paints.
Painters recommend using semi-gloss, eggshell, and satin paints for bathrooms due to the durability, moisture resistance, and ease of cleaning.
First, we worked to remove all wallpaper throughout the house. There was a wallpaper border in a couple rooms, so it wasn’t too big of a deal taking it off. I basically scored the paper, wet it, then scraped it off. We did a more in-depth post last year. The main thing to keep in mind when removing wallpaper is to score well, then soak soak soak. The longer you let the paper soak up the removal spray or water, the easier it will peel off! Don’t paint over the wallpaper. Like most short cuts in home repair, it will lead to more problems down the road. Which I ran into in this house. In the dining room, I was removing the wallpaper when I realized somebody had previously painted over wallpaper. In the entire room! Which leads me to the second thing we did.

Another top exterior blue paint color is Naval (SW 6244). A popular medium or dark blue house color, it sits on the warmer side of the exterior color wheel. When compared to Benjamin Moore’s “Hale Navy”, Naval is more of a classic Navy with fewer grey undertones.

Another potential issue with older textured ceilings is asbestos – in the UK at least, asbestos was sometimes used in whatever it is they put up there. Fortunately it wasn’t present in my house, but if it is it obviously makes it more difficult to safely remove and replaster. Kasey February 26, 2015
Over the years I’ve hired many painters—from Task Rabbit amateurs to professional tradesmen—for both interior and exterior projects. Yet for all my experience, I still feel like hiring a good painter is a crap-shoot, that I’m no closer to discovering that secret formula that guarantees a great paint job every time. Based on the number of friends who painstakingly share their own painting horror stories, I’m not alone. Luckily for me, I have finally found a great painting contractor, Nigel Costolloe, owner of Catchlight Painting, in Newton, MA. I wish I could say that I came to Nigel due to my superior knowledge of how to sleuth out and hire great painters. Alas he was the guy I called to fix a job-gone-wrong.
