As an example, walls are measured in square feet while interior trim is measured in linear feet.
My partner and I are skim coating the texture out of our 2100 sqft home. We probably watched the same videos! and as intimidated as I was to star t, even after finishing just the first room, we have a pretty good handle on how to make it work. Unless you can easily afford to have someone else do it, I think it’s a forgiving enough project for even the most novice homeowner.
The longevity of your paint job can also differ greatly based on the surface. Here is a breakdown of how often you’ll need to paint the exterior of your home based on the surface type: Brick: every 8 – 17 yearsWood siding: every 3 – 7 years (or 4 if it’s stained)Aluminum siding: every 5 yearsNew or mixed materials: every 7 – 12 yearsStucco: every 5 – 12 years Factors That Will Ruin Your Paint Job Sooner
Residential painters charge $0.50 to $6.00 per square foot, while new construction or commercial painting rates average $2 to $5 per square foot. Estimates include two coats of paint applied to interior walls. Damp weather slows drying time, while difficult surfaces and detailed projects increase overall costs.
Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Its quite old school and we come across it in school jobs and old buildings occasionally. Jake Beals May 09, 2020
To prove a point Jim Anderson puts the house painter, Shively Everett to the test in order to see what sort of a businessman he really is.
The Varsity Painters website consistently incorporates green and beige throughout. The use of an embedded image and bulleted lists helps summarize the content on the homepage. At the top, several nice images rotate.
*The amount of paint needed depends on how many coats you need to apply, the porousness of the wall surface, and the paint quality.
Stucco preparation typically involves cleaning the surface, patching pits, cracks, and chips with stucco patching compound, and removing any loose paint.
wow – I’ve never done any sort of intense painting like that before (as a renter) but it just goes to show that there is so much to consider that I wouldn’t have thought of. Thank you for laying out these steps like this!
Hey, folks. It’s Josh. I’ve been super busy these past couple of months working on our HFHS project house. One task we recently completed was painting all of the interior. A lot more goes into painting than you might guess, so I thought it would be fun to share a thorough breakdown of everything we encountered and learned as we painted this house. If you have any big painting projects in your future, I highly recommend you check out some of these tips and lessons we learned so hopefully your project goes smoothly.

Having now successfully completed several exterior and interior projects on my home, the Catchlight team feels like old friends. So I asked Nigel if there really was a way to guarantee that you hire the right painter. He admitted that when it comes to paint contractors, “it’s a bit of the Wild West.” With no formal training or licensing, anyone with a brush can be a painter. But he went on, there are tell-tail signs of a reputable company and important steps that a homeowner can take to ensure that they hire the best painter for their project. Here is what Nigel recommends: Above: Due to extensive wear, detailing, and paint build-up, historic houses like this circa 1890 farmhouse, in Shropshire, England, often need professional handling in order to achieve smooth finish. Complete the roller work on the freshly cut-in wall before cutting-in the next wall so that you are always keeping a wet edge. This will help you to create a uniform finish where the roller work meets the brush work.
