So far our best purchase has been the shop vac sanding attachment (around $35 from amazon); with a HEPA filter in the vac, we’re getting no sanding dust in the house.

Some siding materials are rougher or more porous than others, so it will take more coats of paint and primer to cover them. The result is a higher material cost and longer work hours.
Don’t assume that low prices signify lousy work: Checkbook finds that companies that perform top-quality work are just as likely to quote low prices as companies that do shoddy jobs.
The J Clarke Painting website uses a rather simple design with lots of texts and a few images. By using bulleted and paragraphed text, the designers conveyed a message in an organized way. The top of the homepage makes good use of a revolving set of images.
Of course it takes a lot of time on the job to become a really good painter, but not all jobs require that fine touch. If you work with someone who does have years of experience, you’ll be corrected when you err, and painting mistakes can almost always be corrected (learning how to fix them should be one of your priorities).

After preparing the area, apply a light coat of bonding primer. Sherwin – Williams has great bonding primers. Bonding primer will help the water-based paint adhere to the old oil paint. Allowing 2 – 3 days for the primer to cure is important. It will help prevent the likely hood of the primer coat from chipping or peeling, allowing maximum adhesion.

While tipping house painters is neither expected nor required, you may want to do so, especially if they exceeded your expectations in any way or went above and beyond for the job. How much? Some advocate tipping 15 to 2o percent, but on a $5,000 bill, that adds up to a whole lot. I like this advice I found in a Washington Post story better: It recommends a $10 to $20 tip, plus a glowing online review. “Even better than a tip, however, would be to give the painter a positive review on Yelp, HomeAdvisor or similar websites. And consider providing breakfast (coffee and doughnuts) or a pizza lunch for the crew.”
Even if you go it alone, specialize to keep your initial investment low. If you do only interior painting, for example, you might get by with one ladder, a few brushes, rollers, basic hand tools and such, for an investment of less than $300. Again, you can add to your tools as you need to (every job is a bit different), and parlay profits into the equipment necessary for exterior painting or working on large commercial properties.
Painting your own house sounds fun since you could do it anyway you want. But I don’t think I would be able to do that though. Hope I could do that someday though 🙂 tisha February 26, 2015

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Painting Tool- a must if you have high ceilings! This is an absolute must if you have high ceilings! It saves you from going up and down the ladder and gives you the control and precision that you can't get if you have some other tool on an extension rod. I've been a fan of this product for years. I misplaced the last one that I purchased a while back and was happy to find another one. It's also great for trim around doors and molding since you can control the flow and don't have to go back and forth to the paint pan. Very easy to clean as well. Tip- hold it against the wall when you pump in more paint to avoid any splatter in the event of an air bubble. Splatter is minimal even in that case, this is a great product. Top reviews from other countries It seems a great tool but not as much when you try to use it. It is not flexible as described and I ended up not using. Not easy to clean. I would not recommend it
