Several factors affect how long an exterior paint job will last. The three major ones are; how your house was painted previously, how you have maintained your house, as well as climate and weather.
It’s your home, and you and your family need to be protected. If the answer to this question is ‘no’, move on to the next contractor. If the answer is ‘yes’, ask for proof. .
To remove any loose paint from a smooth stucco surface, use a scraper as discussed above. If the surface is textured, remove loose paint with a wire brush. Then, regardless of whether the surface is smooth or textured, give the stucco surface some “tooth” for new paint to grip by “scratching” it with a wire brush.
Is black the new neutral? Black houses are certainly on the rise, and there’s no denying their chic appeal. We love classics in an old home. A crisp, fresh white in an old home looks anything but boring. In fact, it can help beautiful trim work stand out more. We also like using classic accent colors to bring out detail work or lines on porches, eaves and gables. The right charcoal grey on the exterior of an old home can update it from shabby to stately. And updating that avocado green to a more modern sage can bring new life into an old washroom.
Painting Tip! Sometimes your painting company will leave you with extra paint leftover from your trim painting project. Use it to touch up major nicks and dings to prolong the life of your trim.

Interior paint should last five to ten years. With regular light dusting and gentle cleaning, its lifespan will tend toward the latter. Addressing stains or any signs of water damage as soon as possible is key to maintaining both interior and exterior paint. If you find water damage on your exterior paint, you may want to inspect the gutters and downspouts. A yearly inspection and gutter cleaning may prevent paint damage down the road. Regular maintenance of your exterior paint should also include cleaning, touch-up painting, and trimming trees and bushes near the house to ensure proper airflow.
