Adhesive primers are a type of latex primer used on difficult exterior surfaces such as metal and glazed brick. This is mainly used as an exterior primer because those materials are most often found outside. Regular latex-based primers are rather flexible even once dry, making them a great choice for drywall, fiber cement, and softwood. Oil-based primers, on the other hand, are best for covering damages because it penetrates deep into the surface to which it is applied. It is best used on hardwood because it acts as a natural sealant. Shellac primers prevent odors and mildew growth, so they are preferred for smoke- or water-damaged walls.
We started with primer over every surface that would be painted. The paint sprayer was prepped and ready to go. We sprayed one even coat and let it completely dry. The primer that we used was approved for both surfaces. One important technique to remember while spraying is to keep the spray the same distance away from the surface the entire time and to be cautious when overlapping areas. We really liked using the paint shield for areas that we hadn’t taped off. Since our paint/primer were both white, we just careful sprayed around the soffits along the roof line. We cleaned up the paint sprayer completely after the primer was applied and left the paint to dry completely (overnight).

To paint the interior of a home this size, the cost will be between $4,500 and $6,000. If you’re only focused on the exterior, expect to pay between $2,250 and $5,800. Sometimes, it makes sense to do it all together. The average cost to paint a 1,500 square foot house is approximately $6,700 to $11,800.

Oil-based paints take longer to dry than latex, but they ultimately stand up to scratches and water damage better. For this reason, people often choose to use oil paint in high-moisture areas.
As a general rule of thumb, newer homes involve much less prep work to start painting the exterior. New construction will already be on even ground and won’t have anything obstructing the sides so that it will be less time consuming and cheaper. The painters will be able to come on the site right after the exterior construction is complete.
As a secondary source of income and because we really enjoy the process, we purchase and renovate old houses and then resale them. We do most of the renovations ourselves, but we have a team of professional painters who provide house painting services on the exteriors of the homes.

Subtract those numbers from the overall area of your house, and you’ll have a close estimate of your project’s size.
