There are surfaces that require extensive prep work. For instance, if there is excessive mold or severe peeling, you may need to designate a few extra days to remedy the situation. Therefore, it will be great to talk with an experienced painter to fix extensive issues before you can get started.

Painting labor costs $20 to $50 per hour, depending on their skill level and productivity. Painters’ estimates should include materials, labor, and the cost of paint. Typically, a professional's labor will make up over 80% of the final cost, while paint and materials account for the remaining 20%.
But make sure you assess the full scope of the project (and get free quotes from painting professionals) before you take the leap.

If you want your exterior trim to really pop, then this is the paint finish for you. A high-gloss sheen offers extreme durability and adds a beautiful richness to paint color. You may be tempted to paint your entire home exterior with this easy-to-clean, highly durable sheen, but it isn’t a good idea! Painting all of your siding with high-gloss paint will make your home look “plastic” and magnify surface imperfections. Simply use this finish for highlighting ornate architectural details, trim, and doors. Professional painters will happily paint your exterior walls and siding with a semi-gloss or satin paint to complement the high-gloss finish of your trim.

Josh, some great work on the renovation, it’s come up really nicely! It’s good to see you stressing the importance of not taking short cuts when it comes to prepping and removing wallpaper. It definitely does lead to more problems down the road when done incorrectly. However there is a caveat on that. If the wallpaper is in good condition and you have primed it properly, you can get away with painting over wallpaper. On a few jobs where the client has been on a tight budget, we have used an oil based primer to really seal the adhesive and keep then moisture from the paint away. Has worked well and we haven’t got any call backs. But I’d still agree with you and always push for stripping back wallpaper where possible. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as the saying goes. Also, would love to see how your painted popcorn ceilings came up. We call it ‘vermiculite’. Its quite old school and we come across it in school jobs and old buildings occasionally. Jake Beals May 09, 2020

While prepping your home for painting, you may find bigger issues than just aged paint, such as mold or toxic lead paint. The company you hire to paint might be able to handle problems like these for you, or you may need to find a specialist to remove the harmful substance.
Paints come in several finishes that determine how the final product appears and wears. Do not forget that choosing the right paint finish is just as important as choosing the right color. Flat or matte paints absorb light, which makes the paint look darker. This type of paint covers imperfections well and is best used for ceilings and accent walls. Flat finishes are not as durable as other options, so you should not use them on high-contact areas. Eggshell paints are a step above in terms of pigment and strength. These almost look like matte finishes, but they have a subtle sheen when viewed at an angle. The same can be said for satin paints, except they are a bit shinier. Both are best used in living rooms, bedrooms, and dining rooms.

I live next door to this house and I just wanted to say a big “Thank you!” The pictures do not do justice to how terrible the house looked before ABM purchased it. You all have done so much to add value to the house and also our neighborhood. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to meet the family that eventually moves in! Margaret Annie Williamson March 03, 2015
When painting a large space, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed, and not knowing exactly where to start. It’s almost inevitable that you’ll drip, spill or splatter, so it’s important to paint the room in the correct order. As a rule of thumb, we recommend painting the ceiling first, then the walls and finally the trim.
