For paint to be applied properly and evenly, your home’s exterior will need to be clean and dry. Plan to power wash, remove any flaking paint, repair loose wood or siding, and sand uneven surfaces before painting.
Discuss paint finish types with the contractor as well. Some finishes are better suited than others to the different rooms in your house, and an experienced painter will be able to advise you on what works best in your kitchen versus your master bedroom, for example.
Sealing siding. If water damage could be a problem in the future for wood siding, plan to apply water repellent before priming with an oil-based prime coat and covering with two coats of high-quality paint.
We know, cleaning up is the least fun part of any job. However, clean up and proper disposal of paint wash out is an extremely important part of the painting process. Latex paint can simply be washed out of brushes with soap and warm water. Dispose wash out in a government approved area that will not seep into groundwater.
