For small painting jobs, hiring a handyman costs $35 per hour and up and is a cheap and effective solution. For large or detailed jobs, always hire a professional painter. Whomever you hire, be sure they don't cheap out on the paint, apply two coats, guarantee their work, and do proper preparation. How perfect of a job do you need? Will a few drips in the wrong place wreck your day? Do they have insurance? Can you afford it if they have an accident on the job? Not all paints are created equal though- different types of paints have different drying times. For oil based paints, let the walls dry for at least 24-hours before re-applying. However, if you are using a latex based paint you can begin your second coat in 4-6 hours.
